Yu-Gi-Oh

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

Yu-Gi-Oh was an anime that aired on Kids WB on Saturdays, until the network itself was cancelled in favor of the CW television network. Yu-Gi-Oh told the story of a mysterious poker player known only as "The Pharaoh". Having mastered the game of Texas Hold 'Em in ancient Egypt, "The Pharaoh" went to tournaments around the world calling himself "The Ultimate Master of Games". While not a great strategic player, "The Pharaoh" usually won, due mainly to the sudden appearance of mysterious monsters and mechanical creatures at every tournament he played in.

Yu-Gi-Oh received criticism from the religious right because of the pack of young boys that followed "The Pharaoh" around in every episode. Conservatives felt that the relationship between "The Pharaoh" and title character "Yugi Oh" was particularly suspect. However, except in slash fiction written by Yu-Gi-Oh fanboys, no offensive behavior of that kind was ever mentioned or even indicated in the show.
