The Nine
From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.
The Nine is a new dramatic series scheduled to air Wednesday nights on ABC (assuming the network doesn't decide to air Mulholland Dr. reruns instead). The Nine tells the story of the "Hollywood Hammers", a fictional Major League Baseball team. Following a mysterious plane crash, the Hammers are taken hostage and forced to play against a team of ghosts in a cornfield in Iowa, forever. The first 10 minutes and 37 seconds of each episode deals with the events before and leading up to the crash, with the rest of the episode showing an ESPN-style broadcast of the game in progress.

ABC's Promotional Strategy for The Nine
Eschewing traditional marketing strategy, ABC has repeated an earlier strategy used to promote the popular Emily's Reasons Why Not and spent the entire marketing budget for The Nine on flashy billboards scattered alongside America's freeways. Ironically, most of these billboards are owned by Viacom, parent company of CBS.
