The NBC Monday Movie
From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.
The NBC Monday Movie was an ill-advised attempt by NBC to counterprogram against Monday Night Football (which at the time was shown on ABC, since ESPN wasn't around yet). By showing a Made-for-TV Movie featuring some woman endangered by her husband (or some other random guy) who eventually gained wealth, fame and happiness through her own deeply complex personal struggles, NBC believed that it could gain that portion of the audience that weren't football fans. Unfortunately for NBC, people didn't have to be football fans to bet on Monday Night Football games. As a result The NBC Monday Movie was cancelled in favor of The NBC Tuesday Movie.
Much later on, Lifetime would buy up the entire stock of movies broadcast on The NBC Monday Movie for its own programming needs.
