The Game

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

The Game began airing in 2006 on a brand new network. Since the new network is a carefully selected blend of two old networks, The Game is a blend of two pilots which had been in development hell before the merger.

Similarly to 24, The Game takes place in semi-real time. Unlike 24, however, all the action takes place on a chess board. The show's plots involve famous chess matches throughout history. The first set of episodes depict the famous "Opera Game", which took place in the Italian Opera House in Paris, France in 1858. Aldis Hodge and Tia Mowry star as Mr. and Mrs. Paul Morphy, masters of chess and ninja fighting. The two end up playing against the team of the Earl of New Brunswick (Coby Bell) and Count Dracula (Hosea Chanchez). Helping the Earl and Count are "Earlina" (Wendy Raquel Robinson) and "The Countess" (Meredith Baxter-Birney). The "gentlemen", of course, play chess and talk loudly as the opera (Tommy by The Who) goes on in the background. The three "ladies" try to convince their men to stop drinking absinthe and lose some weight. Each player will move once during the show, and the usual "CW" logo will be replaced with a depiction of the chessboard.

The production team, made up of Girlfriends producer Mara Brock Akil and former world chess champion Bobby Fischer, have high hopes for The Game. The second set of episodes, depicting the famous "Evergreen Game" between Adolf Hitler and a monkey, is currently in production and should be ready to air by Christmastime.
