The Bachelor
From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.
The Bachelor, hosted by NFL goalie Jesse Palmer, is a reality television program that began airing on ABC in 2004. The controversial concept of The Bachelor makes it one of the most talked about and highest rated shows on television. Each season, a confirmed bachelor is chosen from thousands of applicants, each of whom had the application form sent in by his worried mother who "really wants grandkids". The lucky contestant must, over the course of several weeks, choose one of 25 skeletal famewhores lovely ladies to be his possible future beard wife. Unfortunately, none of the show's pairings so far has resulted in a marriage or even a moderately good friendship. The producers of The Bachelor are optimistic and will try again on Monday nights.
A version of the show with one female and 25 males, The Bachelorette, was aired in 2005 but was quickly cancelled due to, in the words of a statement from Steve Jobs, "a critical lack of hot babes".
Host Jesse Palmer has stated several times that he is not one of those "confirmed bachelors" but only hosts them on TV. When not hosting The Bachelor, Palmer is a backup goalie for the NFL's San Francisco franchise.
