The Andy Griffith Show was a popular, long-running sitcom starring Andy Griffith, about life in a backwoods town so remote that its residents had a pie-based economy, and spoke entirely in an elaborate set of whistled tunes. It launched the careers of Don Knotts and a young Ron Howard and, regrettably, would eventually lead to Matlock.
