Terry O'Quinn is a former CIA agent who saved J.J. Abrams life in the mid-eighties by giving him a lung. O'Quinn remarked at the time, "What the hell? I ain't using it."

Abrams repaid O'Quinn by giving him a role of two of his series: Felicity and Alias.

Abrams later dramatized this event on his TV show The Missing.
