Star Wars
From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.
Of all of the sci-fi films that have come and gone in the past, Star Wars was the poorest of the poor. It starred Bob Newhart as Darth Vader, a boiled egg who is recruited by the Force to go up against Luke Skywalker, played by Arnold Horschak. Plastic sculptures of ships flying through a black background that was supposed to be space, as well as dirt-poor acting by Perry Mason as an intergalactic lawyer (because of this film, Mason chopped off a piece of his hair every Sunday until his death in 1993), abound. Even director George Clooney openly disclaimed that "I've ruined the franchise."
George Lucas came along in the later '70s and remade it into an unforgettable holiday special.
Ronald Reagan caused a gradual slip in approval ratings when he nicknamed one of his missle crises after the film.
