Rod Serling
From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.
Rod Serling was the head writer for the 1950's program The Twilight Zone. Serling also wrote scripts for many other shows during the 1960s and 1970s. He is best known as the inventor of irony, an expository device which is still in use today.
Serling's death (by heart attack) in 1975 had absolutely no traces of irony connected with it whatsoever, which may be the most ironic thing of all.
