President William Taft

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

President William Taft, who served as President of the United States from 1909 to 1913, is best known as America's heaviest president, tipping the scales at over 600 pounds. President Taft's massive bulk was due to the fact that Taft was, in reality, a bear. Nominated by President Teddy Roosevelt to appear on the 1908 version of Campaign!, Taft won in a walkover due to the lack of contestants with the courage to face him. For four years, people working in the West Wing lived in constant fear of being mauled.

When Roosevelt went to Africa in 1912 to hunt down big-game hunters from England, the producers of Campaign! saw their chance. Taft was tranquilized and relocated to a large park in California. The 1912 edition of Campaign! went more to form with President Woodrow "Woody" Harrelson, a non-bear, eventually winning the competition.

This was not the end of Taft's days in Washington, D.C., however. In a stunning move (probably caused by alcohol withdrawl following the enactment of Prohibition), Congress approved Taft's nomination as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in 1921. As Chief Justice, Taft terrorized legal clerks and Associate Justices until his death in 1930.
