Prequel
From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.
A Prequel is a type of sequel that has descended even further into the hellish world of television writers. In a prequel, random chracters from a show are moved back in time to a point well before the show began. They must then battle their way back to where they were in the original show's first episode, without ruining that show's continuity (at least not too much). Since the writers don't ever read the show's fan mail, they usually botch the "continuity" part by the third episode. While some prequels are made solely to make more money off a dying show franchise, most are well-written attempts to extend the premise of the original show.
