PETA or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animation is an organization devoted to the welfare of animated characters. It closely monitors the use of animated characters in television and film, assuring than no cartoons are injured during filming.

PETA is not active in Japan, where characters in anime are routinely mutilated, killed, or subjected to extreme stress.
