Nichelle Nichols

Nichelle Nichols made history in 1966 as the first African-American woman in space, and is somehow responsible for Whoopi Goldberg getting into show business.

Nichols now serves proudly alongside Al Gore in his Vice Presidential Action Rangers. She resides in New Orleans, where she is the grandmother to a brood of super-powered youngsters.
