Music video
From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.
A Music Video is a short film meant to accompany a song performed by a musical artist, American Idol contestant, or a relative of a well-known person such as a Hollywood celebrity or an actor from a Disney Channel program. Invented by The Beatles in 1967, music videos were originally intended to promote the release of a song for sale to the general public. With illegal downloading from the Internet replacing sales of albums, cassette tapes and/or CDs as the main vehicle for distribution of musical works, music videos are rarely seen any more. They have largely been replaced by websites such as YouTube, at which budding performers can show all the randomly generated scenes and confusing editing of a music video without the trouble of actually having to write and record an accompanying song.
Oh yeah, MTV used to show music videos a really really long time ago. Just in case you were interested.
