John Munch is the legally adopted name of the actor and stand-up comedian formerly known as Richard Belzer. Munch is a wisecracking TV actor best known for portraying the same wisecracking TV detective on a staggering number of different series.

First appearing on NBC's Homicide: Life on the Street, John Munch is now a regular on Law & Order: SVU, and has made appearances on Law & Order, Law & Order: Trial By Jury, a short-lived UPN series called The Beat, the Fox series The X-Files and Arrested Development, and on the BBC series Doctor Who. John Munch also made appearances on Mad About You and in the movie A Very Brady Sequel under an assumed name.

Scientists estimate that at the current rate of Munchian expansion, John Munch will have appeared on every television series ever made by some point in the year 2012.
