Game Show Network

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

The Game Show Network is a retirement home for old game shows and new poker-related reality shows that don't belong on television. The channel changed its name to GSN in 2004 to try to get that younger, hipper crowd that advertisers want. Didn't work, especially after there was already a channel of that name who sued 'em until they begged for mercy and reverted back to the Game Show Network.

"The Dark Period"

In October 1997, many rabid Game Show Network viewers began an all-out attack on the network amd the shows they aired.

Some of these complaints included the following:

  • An Arkansas resident actually went blind from the orange color on the Match Game set, which forces the network to pull that off the air.
  • A manager of a Blockbuster video rental store in Illinois complained about the name for the game show Blockbusters, so to avoid having the pants sued off them (again) they were forced to remove the episodes.
  • A 40-year-old virgin complained about never being on the shows The Dating Game, The Newlywed Game and Love Connection, so the shows were removed from the network.
  • A single mother worried her ass off about Card Sharks causing many kids to go into gambling, so the network took those shows off, too.

Afterwards, Game Show Network found it had nothing to air. So it spent its entire 24-hour programming periods from 1997 to April 1998 airing little-watched game shows including Child's Play and Debt. Since then, it has unlisted its address from its official website.
