Frasier

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

Frasier, a spin-off of Cheers, was a popular sitcom on NBC. It starred Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde-Pierce as Frasier and Niles Crane, a pair of Seattle psychiatrists who got into weekly mishaps and farcical misadventures. These fiascos all served to help them continue to deny that they were both gayer than a San Francisco revival of Into the Woods starring Liberace and The Village People.

The series also starred John Mahoney as the Cranes' father, driven to alcoholism by his shame at his sons' refusal to come out of the closet; Jane Leeves as the lovely housekeeper Daphne, Niles' beard-to-be and the show's primary source of UST; Peri Gilpin as Roz, the closeted lesbian who enables Frasier in his life of denial and self-deception; and Benji, a robot dog, as Eddie, the family cat.

The character of Frasier Crane had first appeared in Cheers' second-season episode "Upper Deck Audience, Elton John Concert."
