Frank Sinatra was a popular contestant on the 1948 edition of Campaign!. Despite his relative youth compared to the other contestants, his charm (especially with the female viewers) and talent won over America. In the finale, Sinatra was an overwhelming favorite to defeat President Sheriff Harry S Truman. However, in a mystery that has yet to be explained, Sinatra developed "throat problems" just before the show's airing and sounded like a frog throughout the show. President Truman won Campaign! and Sinatra won a long trip off a short pier at the docks in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
