Fidel Castro is known throughout Latin America as the world's top producer of telenovelas. During his career, which ran from 1959 through 2008, Castro was responsible for creating such series as The Cuban Missile Crisis, Betty the Ugly and Gitmo Bay.

In America Castro's contribution to television is little known. Americans know Castro mainly because of his lengthy and successful career as a pitcher in Major League Baseball.
