Emmy Awards

The Emmy Awards are United States television production awards, similar to the Peabody Awards but more focused on entertainment. They have been given out each year since 1952 by Emmy Lou Johnson of Springfield, Missouri.

Because the awards are given out by a 70-year-old homemaker, they tend to represent conservative values, and therefore awards go to tried-and-true favorite series like Frasier and Cheers. The only exception was in 1997, when The X-Files won numerous awards. It is generally believed that Mrs. Johnson's grandson Roy was responsible for award irregularities that year.
