ESPN4
From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.
ESPN4 was one of the many networks created by ESPN during the 1990s to confuse sports fans and broadcast as many ESPN-themed cable television networks as possible. ESPN4 was designed to be the polar opposite of ESPN2. While "The Deuce" would broadcast extreme sporting events (or events that could be made to look extreme given enough graphics), "The Quad" broadcast non-extreme sports such as shuffleboard, chess, bowling and spelling contests.
Broadcast somewhere in the high 600's on the cable box, ESPN4 was among the least watched cable networks, although it consistently beat Tech TV in the ratings war. ESPN4 was scheduled to switch to an all-poker format starting in January 2006, but an accident involving the ESPN4 satellite and the powerful ego of Keith Olbermann has caused the network to be off the air since 2005.
