Discovery Times

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

When the Discovery Channel launched dozens of sibling networks, disreputable scam artists took advantage of the confusion. They cleverly created similarly named networks (i.e. Discovery NeoCon) and sold them to ignorant saps who didn't realize until later that their channels were worthless.

The New York Times Co. was one of the poor unfortunates targeted to invest in the startup Discovery Times channel. The scam artists took the company's money and claimed to produce shows. When Times officials asked to see the finished programs on the network, the scammers told them the network is bundled with sixth-tier cable television packages.

Finally realizing there is no sixth tier, The Times announced on April 13, 2006 it would sell its stake in the Discovery Times channel.

The Times is also seeking buyers for a bridge in Brooklyn.
