Discovery Health was a joint venture between Congress and the Discovery Channel. This cable channel broadcast graphic, disturbing surgical procedures nonstop, even on Christmas. Realizing that few viewers wanted to see surgical procedures of any kind on TV, this channel was given a number way up in the 800's, where not even the most dedicated channel surfer can accidentally find it. Discovery Health was only watched by doctors, who are usually too busy to watch television in any case.

Traumatized by its fellow Discovery Channel neighbors, the Discovery Health Channel called in Oprah Winfrey early in 2008. Following a strenuous training regimen known only to the ancient Chinese, the channel took a year off before being reborn as OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network in 2009.
