David Simon
From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.
David Simon is the creator of The Wire on HBO. The NBC series Homicide: Life on the Street was also based on his reporting, and Simon later joined the series' writing staff under Tom Fontana. (Contrary to what you may have seen on OZ, "under" here is used strictly in the figurative sense.)
Simon was a multiplatinum recording artist and popular Saturday Night Live musical guest until his catastrophic split with performing partner Art Garfunkel drove him first into journalism, and then into TV writing. He was nominated for several Emmy Awards for his Homicide episodes "Mother and Child Reunion" and "Graceland," and his The Wire episode "Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard."
