Cuts
From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.
Desperate to fill space in its lineup after the disastrous failure of its latest sitcom, but unable to afford even the most rudimentary of reality shows, UPN launched a bold experiment in timeslot-filling with Cuts, a half-hour montage of footage trimmed from other UPN shows to help them meet their respective running times.
The network attempted to claim that the cobbled-together footage actually had a plot, in which a crew of Starfleet officers' ongoing war with a barbaric race of professional wrestlers was commented upon, Greek-chorus style, by a rotating cast of wise, sassy, independent African-American women. Though critics hailed Cuts as a masterpiece of Eisenstein-like surrealist montage, audiences failed to like UPN's programming any better in amalgamated form than they had individually, and it was quickly and mercifully cancelled.
