Current

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

Current TV was a cable television network started by Al Gore soon after his stunning loss in the 2000 season of Campaign!. Unlike most television networks which relied on production companies to supply programming, Current relied on its viewers to send in tapes and film which the network would then broadcast.

After a strong start, Current began losing viewers over time, as most of the good viewer-generated footage was already available for free over the Internet. After a few years of struggling, Gore sold Current TV to a group of investors, who relaunched the channel as "YouTube" in 2005.
