Cosplay

Cosplay (derived from the words "cosine" and "play") is one of the more baffling trends of recent years. It involves writers of slash fiction dressing up as trigonometric functions (such as sine, tangent and cosine) and going to Star Trek conventions to discuss Algebra. Usually, this ends up in the cosplay enthusiast getting beaten up by somebody dressed as Worf, but that doesn't seem to stop them. Attempts have been made to find a connection between cosplayers and terrorists, but so far no obvious connection has been found.
