Cavalcade of Midgets

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

Cavalcade of Midgets was a variety show that aired on the DuMont Network during the 1950's. Although considered politically incorrect to today's audiences, Cavalcade of Midgets was revolutionary in its day. For one thing, it starred host Al Jolson, television's first African-American performer. Additionally, the show hired a number of actors and actresses who had not seen work since The Wizard of Oz. The antics of the "little performers", as they were called back then, thrilled Eisenhower era housewives. As a result, Cavalcade of Midgets enjoyed a 10-year run and is still remembered fondly by grandmas and grandpas.

After looking at old DuMont film footage and talking with their lawyers, ABC began airing a midget-free remake of Cavalcade of Midgets in 2006, entitled Master of Champions.
