Cash Cab
From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.
Cash Cab is a Discovery Channel program that spoofs game shows and terrorizes tourists throughout New York City. On Cash Cab, Discovery Channel interns steal a bunch of taxicabs, rename them "Cash Cabs" and roam the streets looking for victims. Whenever a fare enters a "Cash Cab", instead of driving to their destination, the interns kidnap them and randomly roam the streets. Passengers are forced to answer trivia questions about Discovery Channel programming while the meter continues running. The fares are not allowed to leave until they have correctly answered at least ten questions, at which point they are thrown out of the cab and forced by thugs to pay whatever the meter reads.
The disturbing and often violent nature of Cash Cab has vaulted it to the top of the cable television ratings. Police are currently investigating exactly which laws were broken during the filming of Cash Cab.
In 2007, Cash Cab received an Emmy when one of the frightened passengers left it behind in the cab. While host/driver/Discovery Channel intern Ben Bailey doesn't exactly fit the typical image of "Best Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama", he is happy to show off his ill-gotten Emmy to any victims passengers lucky enough to enter his cab.
