Beverly Hills 90210

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

Beverly Hills 90210 was a television drama produced by Aaron Spelling. The series, which aired from 1990 to 2000, dealt with a group of young people who must deal with the social pressures of high school as well as the heartbreak of progeria, the accelerated aging disease. To make the show as realistic as possible, Spelling cast a number of actors in their 40s and 50s to play the parts of the high school students bravely battling against the ravages of time.

90210 dealt with a number of controversial issues through a series of Very Special Episodes, including:

  • the time Donna lost her virginity;
  • elder abuse;
  • David's prescription pill addiction;
  • Medicare reform;
  • a cheating scandal involving Brandon and the basketball team;
  • age discrimination in hiring practices;
  • Kelly's assorted eating disorders;
  • Gabrielle's unsightly wrinkles;
  • peer pressure;
  • the loud music that the kids are listening to these days;
  • the time Steve had hip replacement surgery.

Many of the actors who appeared on 90210 have either retired to convalescent homes or passed away. In recognition of their contributions, CW added a new version of Beverly Hills 90210 to their 2008 schedule. Simply titled 90210, the new show will raise money to help old, tired, worn out actors and actresses.
