Battlestar Galactica

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

Battlestar Galactica is the name of two space-based television series. The original series aired on ABC; the new series airs on The SciFi Channel.

Original Series

The original Battlestar series starred Lorne Greene as Commander Adama and Michael Landon as his son, Apollo. Dirk Benedict co-starred as Faceman. It was in no way a rip-off of any popular movies of the era.

Contrary to popular belief, the series was not a thinly-veiled reference to Scientology. Instead, it was a thinly-veiled reference to Mormonism.

Relaunched series

The new series, developed by Star Trek: The Next Generation producer Ron Moore, stars Edward James Olmos as Commander Adama and Mary McDonnell as his son, Apollo. Phillip Michael Thomas co-stars as Rico Tubbs, and Patrick McGoohan appears as the sexy Cylon Number Six.

Contrary to popular belief, the new series is not a thinly-veiled reference to the post-9/11 political climate. Instead, it is a gripping parable about the terrible consequences of having sex with robots.

Relaunched series spin-off prequels

Reportedly under development, Battlestar Galactica: Vancouver will feature Commander Adama's father, the opinionated and hard-drinking mayor of Vancouver, as well as President Roslin's grandfather, John "J.R." Roslin, an oil baron who was once wounded in an assassination attempt. Sharing no familiar characters or plot elements with its parent series, it is sure to draw a substantial audience of people who like the phrase "Battlestar Galactica" but aren't all that interested in battlestars, galaxies, or killer robots.

In an even earlier stage of development, Battlestar Galactica: Danger Bay will explore Doctor Grant Cottle's efforts to raise two spirited children and protect the interests of a marine aquarium against ecological threats.
