Amerika was a mini-series that aired on ABC during the summer of 1985. Considered one of the most alarming mini-series ever broadcast by a major television network, Amerika told the story of life in the United States following a hostile takeover by the people in charge of spelling bee contests. In a world where the grammar police were real and any misspelled word could get you exiled to the Northwest Territories, a small group of rebels fought on in the name of Turth, Jutsice and teh Amerikan Wai.

While Amerika was not a popular mini-series, ratings were high enough to warrant the production of a sequel, Amerida, which told the story about the eventual takeover of Amerika by Canada.

Amerika was ironically sponsored by telephone manufacturers trying to sell early versions of cell phones.
