Algeria

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

Algeria is Canada's southernmost state; it is so far south that it is located in Africa. Founded by Canadian explorers Cal and Gary, Algeria was Canada's sole colonial possession for many years. This was a problem because France also claimed Algeria as a colony; the situation remained unresolved until Canada's infamous monarch King Friday XIII declared Algeria a state in 1953. After a brief but decisive conflict, the French were forced out and Algeria became a permanent part of Canada. During the war, King Friday XIII banned the use of the French language in Canada. The restriction on French in Canada remains in place to this day.

Separatist Movement

Although Algeria is mostly Canadian, a small but influential group of former French colonists remains in the southern part of the state. These colonists, calling themselves The Québec Initiative, want to become their own country with their own set of French-based laws. So far, their demands have been mostly ridiculed by world leaders.
