Age of consent

The Age of Consent (which occurred sometime around 227 AD) was the period in Roman history when pornography became totally legal. Slaves, centurions, gladiators and Emperors alike began partaking in this new hobby, which soon became the most popular sport in the Empire, overtaking bear-baiting. In fact, pornography became too popular; most of the Roman Army deserted their posts at Rome's borders to engage in the practice, which led to the quick downfall of the Empire.

To prevent this from happening in their lands, most countries soon passed "Age of Consent" laws mandating that citizens be a minimum age before partaking in pornography. This ensured that somebody was watching the borders and could alert the military in case of attack. In the United States, the "Age of Consent" has been set by NBC's To Catch A Predator producers as 18 years old. This rule applies to all states except West Virginia, where the "Age of Consent" is considered largely unenforceable.
