Academy Awards

From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.

The Academy Awards, otherwise known as The Oscars, is a made-for-TV event in which actors and actresses are given gold-plated bowling trophies, supposedly for their work in Made-for-TV Movies. In reality, the main purpose of the Academy Awards is forcing celebrities (who are usually hung over from the previous night's partying) to dress up in outlandish clothes, drive to an obscure theatre in a cheap "economy" car, mumble their way through interviews on E! and the TV Guide Channel, and sit around for 3 hours only to end up losing to the likes of The Adventures of Pluto Nash or Armageddon. In short, priceless entertainment.

The Oscars are held annually in the Kodiak Theatre in Hollywood, California. Academy Awards are given out by the Department of Homeland Security. The show is hosted by a randomly selected comedian.
