48 Hours: Mystery
From TeeVeePedia, the Internet TV Encyclopedia.
48 Hours: Mystery is a CBS crime drama set in Mystery, Alaska. Airing on Saturday nights beginning in 2006, 48 Hours: Mystery stars a bunch of unemployed former reporters from the CBS News department, laid off when Les Moonves bought out Katie Couric's contract from The Today Show. Confused and frightened by their new surroundings, the reporters search for "Breaking News", "exclusive interviews" and "the latest Hollywood gossip" throughout the minute Alaskan village. Each of Mystery's 17 residents (14 people, 2 Siberian huskies and one moose) are interviewed. At the end of 48 Hours: Mystery, the reporter coming closest to finding an actual news event wins that week's prize: a trip back to America on the next plane out.
Paul McCartney was the original host of 48 Hours: Mystery when it first aired in 1988. The current host is former Vice President Al Gore, who also appears in a 3-minute segment at the end of the show to warn Earth about the dangers of global warming.
